School Closure & Procedures for Typhoon and Rainstorm Warnings

 
Parents should listen to radio or television announcements from the government when typhoons affect Hong Kong or in the event of rainstorms.

When in doubt, parents should consult the school website for clarification on arrangements in inclement weather. Please do not call the school in extreme weather unless it is absolutely necessary.
 
The following general arrangements will apply and appropriate public announcements will be made:

Typhoon

Hoisting of No.1 or
No. 3 Signal

School and school bus services
will operate as normal unless
otherwise stated by the EDB.

by the EDB or,

School will close.

Students will NOT be sent home on school buses. Parents should collect their
child from school as soon as
possible once the pre-8 signal has
been announced. If a child is not
collected, the school will hold the
child until the No. 8 signal is
lowered.

Lowering to No. 3 or
No. 1 Signal

otherwise stated by the EDB.

If a signal is raised while pupils are traveling to school, the school is responsible for receiving the pupils and holding them until arrangements can be made for them to return home at an appropriate time.
 
   
¹The pre-8 signal indicates that the Observatory expects to raise the No. 8 signal within two hours, giving school and families the opportunity to be prepared.

Rainstorm

Raising of Amber Rainstorm
Warning

Unless the EDB has made special
announcement on closure of
schools, school will operate as
usual.

School will close as normal at the
end of the school day.
School bus services will operate as
normal.

Raising of Red/Black
Rainstorm Warning

School will close.
If the warning is raised at the
time your child sets off for school,
he/she should stay at home.
School will accept those pupils
who arrive, and retain them
until it is safe to allow them to
proceed home.

School continues until the end of
normal hours and pupils are
retained until conditions are safe
for them to return home.
Students will NOT be sent home
on school buses if the Red/Black
Rainstorm Warning is still in force
within two hours from the school
finish time. In these
circumstances pupils may only be
released to a parent or designated
responsible person if requested by
a parent to do so. School will not
request parents to come and
collect their children in dangerous
conditions.
 

Lowering to Amber
Rainstorm Warning or the
lowering of all warnings

School will operate as normal
unless otherwise stated by the
EDB.

School will close as normal at the
end of the school day.
School bus services will operate as
normal.

When relevant observatory signals are lowered the emergency notices will be removed from websites, indicating a business as usual situation.
